Marc Márquez Alters Ducati’s Plans

Ducati finds itself in an uncomfortable holding pattern. Since Marc Márquez became the MotoGP world champion, the Italian brand has focused on developing the GP25 to keep up with the progress of other teams in recent months. Despite their initial intentions, Marc Márquez’s crash in Indonesia has forced Ducati to alter its plans. The team acknowledges that they are not following the expected timeline due to the rider from Cervera’s accident.

In an interview for the official MotoGP website, Ducati’s general manager, Gigi Dall’Igna, conveyed this message. The Italian engineer reflected on the championship season, particularly impressed by Marc Márquez’s success since joining the team.

‘It has not been an easy year,’ he begins. ‘We changed riders, but I am very proud of the work done by the entire team. Marc is amazing, he is a life lesson. He has turned down many things: money, visibility… all to come back. Working with Marc is very easy; his technical feedback is always correct and understandable,’ he admits. ‘The team’s feeling towards him is very positive. He is a leader who can help the team work well, so it’s easy.’

During the crash in Indonesia, the rider from Cervera suffered a dramatic fall that halted his involvement with Ducati until 2026: ‘It was bad luck because it was not his fault. But sometimes these things happen. He knows he has to accept it and follow the reasonable path he must take,’ Dall’Igna points out, revealing how this unforeseen event has led to changes in the team’s plans: ‘Before Marc’s crash, we wanted to develop something during the final races of the 2025 season. But that is not possible at this time. That is the main problem caused by this accident,’ Dall’Igna acknowledges.

Uncertainties about the future have surrounded Pecco Bagnaia, who has not been able to replicate previous season’s results in 2025: ‘It’s hard to say what happened with Pecco. If I knew, I would be happy because I could do something to solve this situation. But neither he nor I know what happened,’ the Italian admits. ‘The relationship between us and the team is always very good and remains strong in these challenging times. We won two world championships together; I won my first motorcycle championship with him. If I can, I will try to help him come back.’

Regarding having Marc as a teammate, Gigi acknowledges that it can be challenging: ‘It’s not easy because his results are always very good. We are here to achieve results. And if the results do not come, it is a problem for him, his team, and me. It’s a problem for everyone, but all we can do is work hard to recover.’
