The National Air Quality Index reveals that the air pollution crisis is escalating rapidly across the country. The Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) has issued its latest monthly air quality assessment report (for October 2025), based on data from the country’s ambient air quality monitoring stations (CAAQMS). According to CREA’s report, the number of ‘good’ (0-30 µg/m³) air quality days in cities has decreased from 179 in September to just 68 in October. Dharuhera in Haryana is reported as India’s most polluted city in October 2025.
