Weak La Nina Expected Until March 2026, When Will Rainfall Return to Normal?

Indonesia is currently entering a period of increased rainfall, marking the transition towards the peak of the rainy season. Based on the analysis of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) over the last three months, rainfall in the country continues to experience significant increase. Most regions are categorized as medium to high rainfall. BMKG Head Teuku Faisal Fathani explained that the current weak La Nina phenomenon is ongoing and is expected to last until March 2026. Despite this, the weak La Nina is not expected to have a significant impact on increasing rainfall during the peak of the rainy season. ‘The weak La Nina will persist until early 2026, but its impact on rainfall increase during the peak of the rainy season is not significant. However, high rainfall during that period still needs to be monitored,’ said Faisal during the Disaster Preparedness Drill of the Ministry of Public Works (PU), quoted from the BMKG website on Wednesday (5/11/2025).
