Palmeiras suffers its worst night at Allianz and fans spare no one

Palmeiras faced its most hostile reception in the 11-year history of Allianz Parque in the elimination to Corinthians in the Copa do Brasil. The fans criticized everyone in sight as the final whistle blew. Those who attended the game, especially in the organized supporter groups, directed their discontent towards president Leila Pereira, football director Anderson Barros, coach Abel Ferreira, and every player in the starting lineup. No one was spared from the harsh criticisms.

The defeat to Corinthians marked Palmeiras’ eighth elimination at home under Abel’s coaching reign, and the fans’ patience had worn thin. On previous occasions, the team had received applause despite being knocked out, like in the match against Flamengo in the 2024 Copa do Brasil round of 16. However, this time, the frustration was palpable. The fans felt the game was over as early as the 14th minute when Aníbal Moreno headbutted José Martinez, resulting in a red card after VAR review.
