Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz announced on Thursday (November 6, 2025) that he has ordered the army to establish a closed military zone along the border with Egypt to counter the threat of weapons being smuggled via drones. Katz emphasized the importance of defending the country’s security against the drone-related challenges during a press statement, stating, ‘Weapon smuggling through drones is a significant risk that we must address to safeguard our nation.’ Israel and Egypt share a border of approximately 200 kilometers, and recent attempts to smuggle weapons using drones have raised concerns within Israel’s military leadership.
