Hungary Granted Exemption from US Sanctions on Deliveries via ‘Friendship’ and ‘Turkish Stream’

INTERFAX.RU – The US authorities have agreed to lift sanctions on Russian energy deliveries to Hungary via the ‘Friendship’ and ‘Turkish Stream’ pipelines, as announced by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. ‘Hungary will maintain low prices for energy carriers. We have been granted exemptions from the sanctions regarding the ‘Friendship’ and ‘Turkish Stream’ pipelines,’ he is quoted as saying by the TASS news agency. On Friday, Orban held talks in Washington with US President Donald Trump. According to the Hungarian Prime Minister, the country’s release from these sanctions is ‘a comprehensive and indefinite agreement’. TASS notes that earlier this week, ahead of his visit to the US, Orban stated that the issue of continuing energy deliveries from Russia would be ‘the most important topic’ in his negotiations in Washington.
