In 2026, India is gearing up to assume the chairmanship of BRICS, with the Modi government initiating elaborate preparations. The agenda includes organizing BRICS meetings and events in 60 cities across the country. Similar to G20, public participation will be emphasized this time as well. From kite festivals to the Goa Carnival, BRICS will be showcased everywhere.
President Donald Trump of the United States has faced the most challenges from the BRICS summit. Trump believes that grouping Brazil, Russia, China, India, and South Africa, among others, aims to end the dominance of the US dollar. Trump is keen on removing India from this group. Several BRICS member countries, including India, have already faced additional tariffs. Now, PM Narendra Modi is planning to take steps that will surely ruffle Trump’s feathers. After the splendid hosting of G20 in 2023, the government is now focused on showcasing India’s identity on another global platform.
The Modi government’s aim is to present India as a strong, culturally rich, and self-reliant country on the world stage. According to government documents, BRICS meetings will be organized in around 60 cities in 28 states and 9 centrally governed territories. The programs will be spread throughout the country, similar to the programs during G20. This time, public participation will be emphasized to ensure every citizen can be part of this pride.
The plan includes several interesting activities such as a kite festival with a BRICS theme, the creation of BRICS figures with environmentally friendly Diwali diyas, holographic projections in cities, special tables on Republic Day, and even showcasing BRICS in airlines, metros, buses, and trains. Additionally, popular festivals in the country like Kerala’s Boat Festival, Odisha’s Sand Art Festival, and Goa Carnival will also be infused with the BRICS theme.
Moreover, a special BRICS theme song will be prepared, composed by an internationally acclaimed Indian musician. India plans to broadcast a message of the country’s culture, diversity, and global leadership capacity through BRICS chairmanship. The Modi government wants the world to say, ‘This is the new India, shining on the global stage through its own capabilities,’ when India assumes the BRICS chairmanship in 2026.
