Super Typhoon Rai transformed into a super storm, prompting the evacuation of 100,000 residents in eastern and northern provinces in the Philippines. Following concern over the approaching storm, various locations are expected to experience strong winds and heavy rain. Several major locations in the Philippines have issued storm warnings. Luzon, in the south, has been issued a Signal No. 5 typhoon warning, the fourth strong signal being given in the historical Manila city and surrounding areas, raised to Signal No. 3 storm warning.
