US Treasury Department announces that suspension of restrictions for Syria does not ease sanctions against Russia

The US has partially suspended sanctions against Syria under the Caesar Act, but restrictions still remain in place regarding the country’s cooperation with Russia and Iran, reported the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). The suspension applies to certain transactions with the governments of Russia and Iran, or the transfer and supply of goods, technologies, software, funds, financing, or services of Russian or Iranian origin, as stated in an OFAC press release. The suspension of the Caesar Act will be in effect for 180 days, as announced by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on November 10th. Sanctions against former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and several individuals in his circle are maintained by the US.
