Prabowo Subianto’s Historic Visit to Australia as Indonesia’s President

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is set to make a historic visit to Australia on Wednesday, marking his first official trip to the country since becoming president last year. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced this highly anticipated visit, although specific details were not disclosed. Prabowo’s last visit to Australia was in August of the previous year, when he served as minister of defense and the president-elect. He was officially inaugurated in October. Albanese and Prabowo previously met in Jakarta in May this year for the annual Australia-Indonesia leaders’ meeting, which took place shortly after Albanese’s reelection. In a statement, Albanese expressed his excitement about hosting President Prabowo in Australia and highlighted the strong bond and trust shared between the two nations, emphasizing their commitment to a secure, stable, and prosperous Indo Pacific region. Australia views Indonesia as one of its key bilateral relationships, considering it as a crucial neighbor, especially following Papua New Guinea.
