Hybrids breaking records: What’s happening in the Russian market?

According to Sergey Tselikov, head of ‘Avtostat,’ in October, Russia registered 6292 plug-in hybrid vehicles, marking a 54% increase compared to the same month last year and a 62% increase from September this year. This surge represents a record month for PHEV sales in Russia’s history, both in absolute numbers and market share, at 3.8%.
The explosive growth can be attributed to the imminent increase in disposal fees, leading to a subsequent rise in prices. Against this backdrop, sales have increased not only for imported vehicles but also for domestically assembled ones.
Over the course of 10 months, PHEV sales amounted to nearly 30 thousand units, showing an 11% decrease from the previous year’s figures.
In October, Voyah emerged as the leader in the PHEV segment with 1572 units sold, pushing the former leader Lixiang (1437 units) to second place. The top 5 also included Exeed/Exlantix (613 units), Geely (471 units), and Aito (412 units).
Lixiang remains the top-selling brand in the PHEV segment for the 10-month period, with 9717 units sold.
