Mercadante: Brazil needs to create the BIC [Brazil, Indonesia, and Congo] for tropical forests

BNDES president, Aloisio Mercadante, emphasized the need for a BIC alliance focused on protecting tropical forests during the Ecora Brazilian carbon credit certifier launch ceremony. Mercadante stressed the importance of Brazil turning to the Global South and the work of diplomacy and coordination among countries with similar needs and interests. He mentioned that Indonesia’s participation in COP was influenced by President Lula’s visit, leading to a $1 billion contribution to the Tropical Forests for Forever Fund.
