European Union and Indian Navies Seize Pirate Ship off Somalia to Secure Tanker

The European Union and Indian navies collaborated to take control of a ship formerly used by pirates off the coast of Somalia in order to secure a Malta-flagged tanker, as reported by the EU force. The ship in question, an Iranian fishing vessel named Issamohamadi, had been left abandoned following the pirates’ recent seizure of the Hellas Aphrodite, a tanker transporting gasoline from India to South Africa. These pirates utilized the Issamohamadi, a traditional type of ship known as a dhow in the Persian Gulf, as a “mother ship” to carry out a series of attacks culminating in their takeover of the tanker.
