A federal court jury awarded more than $28 million to the family of a woman who died in the crash of a Boeing 737 Max jetliner in Ethiopia over six years ago. The verdict was reached in Chicago after a weeklong trial on behalf of Shikha Garg, a United Nations consultant. This was the first civil trial related to the March 2019 disaster that claimed the lives of all 157 individuals on board Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302. The family’s attorneys, Shanin Specter and Elizabeth Crawford, expressed satisfaction with the verdict, stating that it holds Boeing accountable for its wrongful actions. The family of the deceased will receive a total of $35.8 million, including an additional $3.4 million to Garg’s husband, Soumya Bhattacharya, as part of a settlement outside of court.
