According to Khalilbekov, dentists always assess the condition of the cheeks, tongue, palate, and lips during the examination. The doctor noted that specialists pay attention to the appearance of redness, white spots, erosions, or ulcers. Khalilbekov clarified that they could be caused by a failed filling, a cut injury, or smoking. However, sometimes these changes are symptoms of disorders in the body – for example, anemia or diabetes, and in rare cases – signs of developing a tumor in the oral cavity. Recognizing suspicious changes, the doctor refers the patient for further examination, Khalilbekov added. Thanks to this, the disease can be detected at an early stage.
