Operation ‘Southern Spear’: Trump administration announces operation against drug trafficking

The American government announced on Thursday (13) an operation against drug trafficking in the Americas called ‘Southern Spear’. In a social media post, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the mission, ordered by President Donald Trump, aims to ‘defend the homeland’ and ‘remove narcoterrorists’ from the hemisphere. ‘The Western Hemisphere is America’s neighborhood – and we will protect it,’ said Hegseth. The US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) is the combat command of the US military that covers 31 countries in South America, Central America, and the Caribbean. (updating)
