Tanker Ship Diverts into Iranian Waters Amid British Military Warnings of ‘State Activity’

A tanker transiting through the narrow Strait of Hormuz suddenly changed course into Iranian territorial waters on Friday, with the British military warning of possible ‘state activity’ influencing the situation. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center issued the alert as a private security firm reported small vessels intercepting the ship earlier. Although Iran has not acknowledged the incident that occurred near the United Arab Emirates, historical tensions with the West raise concerns. The ship in question, a Marshall Islands-flagged tanker named Talara, departed from Ajman bound for Singapore but abruptly turned toward Iran, according to ship-tracking data analyzed by The Associated Press.
