Failed Asylum Seeker Charged with Raping Woman Appears in Court

Mohammed Fathi Eltbie, 24, originally from Egypt, was remanded in custody after appearing in court charged with raping a woman in her 30s in a wooded area of Bournemouth. Eltbie, who required an interpreter, is set to appear at Bournemouth Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing. Prosecutor Robert Salame mentioned Eltbie arrived in the UK in July 2023, with an uncertain immigration status. The incident occurred off Maxwell Road, with Eltbie and the complainant being unknown to each other. Magistrates decided Eltbie should remain in custody due to a significant risk of not surrendering if granted bail, as he could not provide a current address in Bournemouth due to recent relocation.
