As the year ends, many people in Indonesia are already looking forward to knowing how many days are left until the start of the 2026 fasting month. The beginning of Ramadan is marked by the sighting of the moon in the Hijri calendar. In Indonesia, there are often discrepancies in the determination of the start of the Hijri month between the government and Islamic organizations like Muhammadiyah, due to different calculation methods. Referring to the 2026 Hijri calendar published by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag), the government has set the 1st day of Ramadan 1447 H or the start of fasting in 2026 on February 19, 2025. Counting backward from today, November 16, 2025, there are 94 days left until the first day of Ramadan 2026.
It’s important to note that this schedule is still an estimate and may change. The official start of Ramadan will be determined after the isbat session. The isbat session for the start of Ramadan is usually held towards the end of the month of Sha’ban, which next year falls on February 18, 2026.
In contrast to the government, which is still to hold the isbat session to formally establish the start of Ramadan, Muhammadiyah has already officially set the schedule for the beginning of Ramadan 2026. According to the Global Unified Hijri Calendar (KHGT) 1447 H, Muhammadiyah has set the start of Ramadan on February 18, 2026.
This decision aligns with the Maklumat No.01/MLM/I.1/B/2025 regarding the Adjustment of the Determination of 1 Ramadan 1447 H and its Scientific Explanation issued by the Muhammadiyah Central Board of Tarjih and Tajdid. If we count backward from today, November 16, 2025, there are 93 days left until the first day of fasting in 2026.
