Reasons Why Indra Sjafri Didn’t Play Arkhan Fikri and Rayhan Hannan When National Team Got Beaten by Mali

The Indonesian U-22 National Team coach, Indra Sjafri, explained the reasons why two of his players, Arkhan Fikri and Rayhan Hannan, were absent when Garuda Muda faced Mali at Pakansari Stadium, Bogor, West Java, on Saturday (15/11/2025). Both were not included in the lineup due to ongoing injury recovery processes. According to Indra, Arkhan’s condition did not allow him to play, especially since the Arema FC midfielder still needed about a week to fully recover. ‘Arkhan Fikri is still awaiting around one more week for recovery. In the last ultrasound, there were many changes from the hamstring injury he suffered while playing for his club,’ said Indra Sjafri during a post-match press conference on Sunday (16/11/2025). For Hannan, his medical condition had indeed improved. However, the coach from West Sumatra did not want to take any risks and wanted to ensure that the players were in peak condition. ‘We did not want to take any risks with Hannan in this friendly match, even though yesterday’s ultrasound results, according to the doctor, showed no issues anymore, it was clear,’ he stated. ‘But the coaching staff or the physical trainer are still working to ensure he is truly 100% ready. So, indeed, both Arkhan Fikri and Rayhan Hannan are out due to injuries,’ he added. Arkhan’s absence was filled by Ananda Raehan, who partnered with Ivar Jenner in the midfield, while Hannan’s position was taken by Rahmat Arjuna. During the match, the Indonesian U-22 National Team had to admit defeat to Mali with a score of 0-3. The away team’s goals were scored by Sekou Doucoure (5′), Wilson Samake (34′), and Moulaye Haidara (90+1′). The match against Mali served as one of the final tests before the U-22 National Team entered the squad finalization phase for the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand. Out of the 30 players currently in the team, seven players will be cut before the SEA Games. Only 23 players will be brought to the Southeast Asian sporting event. After playing last Saturday, both teams will face each other again for a friendly match at the same stadium on Tuesday (18/11/2025).
