Rayssa Leal Wins Fifth Title at STU Rio in First Round

Rayssa Leal has clinched her fifth STU Rio title. After taking the lead in the first round, the Olympic medalist excelled at Praça do Ó in Barra da Tijuca (RJ) to secure another championship. Rayssa shone brightly in the first round, scoring 75.69 and claiming the top spot. Each of the six finalists had three rounds, with only the best score being considered. In the second attempt, the Olympic medalist scored 64.00, maintained her score, and continued to lead. The Brazilian qualified for the grand final with the highest score in the semi-final. A brief rain delay occurred after the second round. At that time, Rayssa was in the lead, followed by Australia’s Chloe Covell (70.55) and Keet Oldenbeuving (58.78) from the Netherlands. Rayssa watched all competitors perform before her final run as the champion. She was the last to hit the course, saw Chloe fall on the last maneuver, and was not threatened by the other finalists. Nevertheless, she completed her final run, fell while attempting a special move, and celebrated. ‘I am extremely happy. It is a great thrill. I managed to do what I wanted, nail my rounds. I am excited about everything this year. I am very happy for the opportunity to skateboard here in Brazil,’ Rayssa Leal told Globo. Final Standings: Rayssa Leal (BRA) 75.69, Chloe Covell (AUS) 70.55, Keet Oldenbeuving (NED) 58.78, Gabi Mazzetto (BRA) 55.23, Maria Lúcia (BRA) 40.50, Isabelly Ávila (BRA) 25.68.
