Portugal Crushes Armenia and Secures Spot in World Cup

Portugal defeated Armenia 9-1 today at Estádio do Dragão, in Porto, securing 1st place in Group F in the European Qualifiers and a direct spot in the 2026 World Cup. The Portuguese national team didn’t feel the absence of their main star, Cristiano Ronaldo, who was red-carded in the previous round in the 2-0 loss to Ireland, receiving criticism even from his own country’s newspapers. The Portuguese domination included two hat-tricks by João Neves and Bruno Fernandes, as well as goals from Renato Veiga, Gonçalo Ramos, and Francisco Conceição. Spertsyan scored the consolation goal for Armenia. Portugal finished the qualifiers in 1st place in Group F with 13 points, while Armenia ended up in last place with 3 points. In the other group match, Ireland defeated Hungary 3-2, securing a spot in the play-offs. Parrott scored all three goals for the Irish, knocking Hungary out in Budapest.
