Ranji Trophy: Shahbaz’s century, Sumit’s bizarre dismissal for 97! Duronto Shamim dreams of victory for Bengal in Kalyani

Sandip Sarkar, Kalyani: While one remained unbeaten on 61 runs, another fell for 25. Shahbaz Ahmed and Sumit Gupta hinted on Monday that Bengal would put up a big score against Assam. The first day witnessed Shahbaz’s second century in First-class cricket as he scored 101 runs before an injury prevented him from playing against Uttarakhand in Bengal’s first match. Returning to play in the second match against Gujarat, he excelled in the game, showing his ability to play big innings under pressure as a left-arm spinner all-rounder. Sumit Gupta was also aiming for a century but fell for 97 runs against Railways, after scoring a century in the previous match. His chances of scoring back-to-back centuries were cut short in the ongoing match, leaving him disheartened.
