Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Trip to the United Arab Emirates and G20 Summit

Prime Minister Mark Carney is embarking on a trip to the United Arab Emirates tonight before continuing to South Africa for the G20 Leaders’ Summit later this week. A news release from the Prime Minister’s Office states that Carney will meet with the president of the UAE in Abu Dhabi to enhance the Canada-UAE economic partnership in various sectors such as energy, agriculture, infrastructure, and AI. Additionally, Carney plans to engage with business executives and investors to diversify Canada’s export markets beyond the United States and attract foreign investments. When he arrives in Johannesburg, Carney will participate in the G20, marking his first attendance at the international gathering that represents over 85% of the global economy. This trip to the UAE and South Africa is Carney’s second overseas journey in the last month and the 10th foreign trip since assuming office, drawing criticism from the Conservatives. Ontario Premier Doug Ford expressed his support for Carney’s international engagements, acknowledging the prime minister for taking proactive steps to showcase Canada on the global stage.
