Cairo, Nov 19 – Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer discussed the importance of building upon the recent UN Security Council resolution regarding Gaza. The leaders highlighted the necessity of this follow-up to secure the current ceasefire and promote further de-escalation in the region. The resolution, drafted by the US and adopted by the UN Security Council, endorses the creation of an international stabilization force in Gaza, allowing UN member states and the Board of Peace to establish a temporary ISF to coordinate reconstruction efforts. This force will operate in consultation with Egypt and Israel.
During their conversation, Sisi and Starmer also emphasized the significance of advancing the outcomes from the Sharm El-Sheikh summit in Egypt to facilitate humanitarian aid delivery and prompt reconstruction efforts in Gaza. Starmer stressed the immediate need for ample humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza and called for enhanced collaboration with international relief organizations to achieve this objective. Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit echoed these sentiments, stating that the UN resolution marks the beginning of a comprehensive process rather than a conclusion. He emphasized the importance of translating the resolution into concrete actions for the benefit of Palestinians, with a focus on establishing a path towards an independent Palestinian state. Aboul-Gheit called for intensive efforts at all levels to implement the resolution effectively and improve the lives of the Palestinian population.
