The Civil and Military Police of Rio de Janeiro carried out another phase of Operation Containment on Wednesday morning, targeting the territorial expansion of the Red Command (CV) in the West Zone of the city. So far, two people have died, two have been injured, and eight suspects have been arrested. During the operation, the officers were received with gunfire by criminals upon arrival at the Vila Kennedy community and retaliated. A group attempted to flee during the operation and their vehicle was intercepted on Avenida Brasil, near Realengo. The suspects did not obey the police’s orders to stop and fired multiple shots at the officers. Two suspects died on the scene, while the other two were taken to the Albert Schweitzer Municipal Hospital. Two rifles and a pistol were confiscated from the group, believed to be drug dealers from Vila Kennedy trying to reach the Alemao and Penha complexes to evade the operation. The investigation revealed a structured system of territorial, economic, and military dominance in the Vila Kennedy community, serving as a strategic base for offensive actions directed at the neighborhoods of Catiri (Bangu), Carobinha (Campo Grande), and Largo do Corrêa. The Red Command members were the targets of arrest and search warrants in the operation, which is ongoing.
