Alexander Ovechkin, despite living in the USA for 20 years, always remembers his roots and emphasizes his national identity whenever possible. The forward’s unique skates with the Russian flag made Americans hold their breath in awe. In 2017, Ovechkin embarked on an interesting project for a charity auction by the American Special Hockey Association. He collaborated with designers Nicholas Avery and Napoleon Kerber, who are known for working with players in the National Football League, to create skates with a special design that reflected his connection to Russia and the USA. The skates featured the American flag and the Capitol building in Washington on one skate, and the Russian flag and St. Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow on the other.
