India and South Africa are currently engaged in the Test series, but fitness concerns for many of their star players are bothering Team India. Captain Kohli’s recent remarks have complicated the situation, making it difficult for the team to organize the second Test starting in Guwahati on November 22. Fitness and workload issues are not just limited to the Test series but also relevant for the upcoming ODI series. The participation of Captain Kohli and Vice-Captain Ayyar in the series is uncertain, but two other star players may miss up to three ODI matches.
Star players skipping the ODI series?
After the conclusion of the second Test match in Guwahati, the India-South Africa ODI series will begin on November 30. The first match of the series will be held in Ranchi. The Indian team’s lineup for this series has not been announced yet. Main focus is on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s selection, but concerns about Captain Kohli and Ayyar’s fitness remain. Kohli may be fit for this series, but Ayyar may need a little more time to recover.
Bumrah to Take a Break from ODI after focusing on T20
Apart from Kohli and Ayyar, two other players may be excluded from this series, with Jasprit Bumrah being the first name. There are claims that star fast bowler Bumrah may take a break from this ODI series, focusing on the upcoming T20 World Cup, which has shifted the priority away from the 50-over format. Bumrah’s potential break from the ODI series could allow him to participate more in T20 matches.
Hardik to prove fitness before his match
In addition to Bumrah, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya will also be rested from the India-South Africa ODI series. After an injury during the Asia Cup, which forced him to recover, Hardik has been away from cricket for almost two months. Therefore, selectors and team management are hesitant to put him back directly into the ODI format due to fitness concerns.
World Cup before Africa-New Zealand T20
In this scenario, Hardik will not be part of the ODI series and will prove his match fitness by participating in the Syed Mushtaq T20 Trophy starting on November 26 from Baroda. If Hardik proves his fitness here, he may rejoin the Indian team for the India-South Africa T20 series starting December 10. Bumrah may also return to the field for this series. Before the T20 World Cup starting in February, India will only play two T20 series against South Africa and New Zealand.
