The CBF released the audio recordings of key plays involving the VAR in the Flamengo versus Fluminense derby. What stands out the most is the dialogue and the interpretation of the referees regarding the play in which Flamengo appealed for a penalty for Thiago Silva’s challenge on Bruno Henrique. Both on the field and in the VAR booth, there was a consensus to let the game continue. Bruno Henrique positioned himself between Thiago Silva and the ball. Then, with the defender making a kicking motion towards his leg, the Flamengo striker went down. The immediate interpretation by referee Davi Lacerda was: ‘He (Thiago Silva) pulls out his foot, it’s a corner, it’s a corner.’ The on-field referee reiterated this before the VAR review. ‘The red player’s foot gets there first, but Thiago Silva pulls out his leg,’ he said. In the VAR booth, referee Wagner Reway conversed with the others: ‘He makes the motion then pulls out, he doesn’t kick the leg,’ he mentioned, despite there being contact on the leg. After watching another replay of the play from a different angle, the VAR added, speaking directly to Davi Lacerda:
