Police officer who staged kidnapping on Rodoanel was a PM soldier

The driver, identified as Dener Laurito dos Santos, who pretended to have been kidnapped after crossing a truck on the Rodoanel Mario Covas, was a soldier in the Military Police of the State of São Paulo until 2006, when he was expelled from the force. As stated in a publication in the Official Gazette, Laurito was a member of the 22nd PM battalion and was discharged for ‘dishonorable acts’ considered ‘serious disciplinary transgressions’, based on the institution’s Disciplinary Regulations.
The man confessed to the police on Wednesday afternoon that he himself produced the fake bomb. The suspicion left the Rodoanel closed for over five hours. During a press conference, the delegate in charge of the case informed that suspicions of a possible kidnapping began after investigating evidence such as images, phone calls, and testimonies. The police noticed that the facts did not match Laurito’s story, and when confronted, the driver decided to confess.
Additionally, the suspect of false crime reporting had lied about having a stone thrown at the car. The driver admitted that he had actually thrown the stone. The object was seized a day after the incident. Investigations are ongoing at the DISE (Narcotics Investigation Department) in Taboão da Serra for a full clarification of the facts.
