How Brazil’s Brics partners block Lula’s plan against fossil fuels at COP30

Brazil’s partners in the Brics, Saudi Arabia, China and India, have been pressuring against President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s proposal to create a roadmap to reduce global fossil fuel consumption at COP30, the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Belém. Saudi Arabia, one of the world’s largest oil producers, China, and India, among the largest consumers of fossil fuels, lead this opposition. Despite being one of the largest oil producers, Brazil has supported the proposal for a clear roadmap to phase out fossil fuels.
