Indonesia’s Largest Islamic Organization Calls for Leader’s Resignation over Invitation to Pro-Israel Speaker

Indonesia’s largest Islamic organization, Nahdlatul Ulama, is requesting its leader to resign after inviting a US scholar who has expressed support for Israel during the Gaza conflict. The organization, which has approximately 100 million members worldwide, is giving Chairman Yahya Cholil Staquf three days to offer his resignation or face removal. The decision was made following Staquf’s invitation to an event featuring a figure associated with International Zionism network. Staquf, in response, admitted the oversight and expressed regret for not thoroughly researching the background of the invitee, Peter Berkowitz.
