Trump expresses disappointment when asked about Bolsonaro’s arrest

US President, Donald Trump, expressed regret on Saturday (22) over the preventive arrest of former President Jair Bolsonaro. When questioned by journalists about the detention before departing for Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, Trump stated: ‘I don’t know anything about it. Is that what happened? It’s a shame, I just think it’s a shame.’ His response came after questions from the White House press pool about the Supreme Federal Court’s decision to decree Bolsonaro’s preventive arrest following the violation of his electronic ankle monitor and the alleged risk of fleeing. The White House also reported in an email to pool journalists that Trump hinted at having spoken to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva the night before. Donald Trump told reporters, ‘I spoke with the gentleman you just mentioned last night,’ without specifying who he was referring to. The White House itself sent a second email later saying that it was not clear if Trump was referring to Lula or Bolsonaro, and that journalists from the pool were seeking clarification.
