USP Philharmonic Orchestra of São Carlos celebrates cultural diversity with concert “Composers and Poets of BRICS”

On November 26th, a concert will be held at 8pm at the Events Hall of USP Campus 1 (Rua dos Inconfidentes, 85), titled “Composers and Poets of BRICS”, conducted by maestro Rubens Russomanno Ricciardi. The entrance is free, with no advance ticket distribution – the hall has 400 seats filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The performance brings together works that transcend geographical and historical boundaries, featuring compositions from countries that are part of BRICS. The repertoire includes pieces by Dmitri Shostakovich and Vassili Soloviov-Sedoi (Russia), as well as a pacifist song by Bertolt Brecht & Hanns Eisler (Germany) reimagined by Ricciardi. Brazil is represented by composers like Gilberto Mendes, Claudio Santoro, Radamés Gnattali, Antônio Passarelli, José Delphino Machado, Edmundo Russomanno, Goiá & Belmonte, and Clóvis Pereira dos Santos, with works being interpreted in orchestrations specially adapted by Ricciardi. Poetically, the program connects with authors like Qu Yuan, an ancient Chinese poet, and Agustín Gómez Lubián “Chiqui”, a Cuban poet, whose verses inspired national compositions. The concert will feature young soloists from USP: sopranos Gabrielly Mariane Pinheiro and Luísa Brito, baritone Christian Aparecido Batista Ferreira, and violist Mateus Soares Santos Lousano, all undergraduate students from the Music Department of the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences, and Letters of Ribeirão Preto (FFCLRP) at USP.
