Egypt, Qatar, and the US have been mediating between Hamas and Israel to maintain the ceasefire that began last month. During a meeting in Cairo, Hamas reiterated its commitment to the ceasefire’s first phase. However, they accused Israel of ongoing violations that jeopardize the agreement. The delegation, led by Gaza chief Khalil Al-Hayya, demanded a clear mechanism to monitor and stop any breaches. They also discussed solutions for Hamas militants in Rafah tunnels, highlighting communication challenges. Mediators have been working on resolving the situation of Hamas fighters in Israeli-controlled areas of Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reported the killing of five Hamas members after an attack on Israeli soldiers in the territory. Health officials confirmed at least 20 casualties from Israeli air strikes. The Israeli military claimed to have taken down a Hamas commander, Alaa Al-Hadidi, during operations in Gaza. Turkey’s President Erdogan mentioned plans to evaluate the deployment of Turkish security forces for international stabilization efforts in Gaza. Turkey, a NATO member, played a significant role in negotiating the Gaza ceasefire, aiming to join the planned stabilizing force.
