Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces Announce Ceasefire Following Rejection of US Plan by Army

Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces declared a unilateral three-month ceasefire on Monday, in response to the rejection of a US truce proposal by the army. The RSF, engaged in conflict with Sudan’s regular army since April 2023, cited international efforts, including the initiative of US President Donald Trump and the Quad mediators – comprising the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt. The RSF’s decision came after the UAE criticized army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan for dismissing the US truce proposal, prompting accusations of bias and obstructive behavior.
