Volcanic Ash Disrupts Air Travel: Multiple Flights Cancelled in India

New Delhi, Nov 25 – Air travel in India has encountered disruptions due to a volcanic ash plume drifting towards northern India from Ethiopia. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued an urgent advisory to airlines and airports, leading to the cancellation of several flights. IndiGo and Akasa Air were among the carriers affected, with IndiGo cancelling multiple domestic and international flights. The airline took to social media to reassure passengers about safety amidst the ash cloud threat. Other airlines had to divert flights to avoid the volcanic ash cloud, impacting international carriers like KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, which had to cancel flights between Amsterdam and Delhi. The DGCA issued an ASHTAM alert, instructing airlines to follow safety procedures and report any ash encounters immediately.
