The Indian government reassured on November 25 that there is no cause for concern as ash and plumes from the volcanic eruption in Ethiopia move towards India. The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) alerted concerned parties about the NOTAM issued by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) following the eruption of the HayliGubbi volcano in Ethiopia, sending ash clouds and volcanic plumes towards India.
NOTAM or ‘Notice to Air Missions’ is an official alert that provides critical information about changes or hazards in the National Airspace System that may affect flight operations. MoCA stated that it is ensuring coordination between all aviation authorities, with operations across India remaining smooth. The Ministry is working alongside Air Traffic Control (ATC), the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), airlines, and international aviation agencies to ensure seamless coordination.
The MoCA post emphasized that AAI has issued the necessary NOTAM and informed all affected flights. Operations across India continue without disruption, with only a few flights rerouted or descended as a precaution. MoCA emphasized that there is no cause for concern at the moment and that they are monitoring the situation closely to provide timely updates for passenger safety. The Indian government is closely monitoring the situation, assuring the public that there is no immediate threat from the volcanic eruption in Ethiopia reaching India. The Ministry is working in collaboration with various aviation authorities and agencies to ensure the safety and smooth operation of flights across the country. Passengers can remain confident that the government is taking proactive measures to address any potential impact from the volcanic plumes moving towards India. As the situation continues to evolve, the Indian government will provide further updates to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all passengers and airline personnel.
