The death of a woman in São Bento do Sul has raised concerns about the increase in meningitis cases in Santa Catarina. At 53 years old, she is one of the seven fatal victims in the state this year, according to the Epidemiological Surveillance Directorate of Santa Catarina (Dive/SC), which issued an alert emphasizing the importance of vaccination at Basic Health Units. In São Bento do Sul, according to the City Hall’s press office, vaccines are available at all clinics, and the BCG for newborns (which protects against tuberculous meningitis) can be found at the Central Health Center. The city also conducts ‘active search’ for vaccination, including during enrollment and re-enrollment procedures in the education system.
