What is Global Citizenship of Indonesia? Called the Solution for Dual Citizenship

The Indonesian government, through the Directorate General of Immigration, Ministry of Immigration and Dissemination, has introduced the Global Citizenship of Indonesia (GCI). But what is it? Minister of Immigration and Dissemination, Agus Andrianto, explained that GCI is the Indonesian government’s response to cases of dual citizenship. This policy is in place to show that Indonesia is capable of adapting to the existing global dynamics without sacrificing the principles of legal sovereignty. GCI is essentially a residency permit for foreign nationals who have strong ties to Indonesia, offering permanent residence instead of the temporary stay that visas typically provide. It grants broad residency rights to foreign nationals with strong connections to Indonesia without altering their foreign citizenship status or violating any laws.
