Shooting in Maré closes Linha Amarela; child is shot at school and classroom at Fundão hit by gunfire

According to the Secretariat of Municipal Education, the student who was shot in the leg attends the sixth grade at Ciep Hélio Smidt, located between the communities of Nova Holanda and Parque União. The student was hit by a bullet during a Science activity in the school’s courtyard. The school’s pedagogical coordinator immediately assisted him and took him to a nearby family clinic, where the bullet was removed. The boy is now at Hospital Getúlio Vargas, accompanied by his mother. The Yellow Line had to be completely closed in the Fundão direction due to the police operation near Vila do João, as reported by the City’s Operations Center. The operation was launched after intelligence sectors of the Civil Police identified heavily armed traffickers preparing to invade a rival community. During the operation, panic spread on the UFRJ campus at Ilha do Fundão, with a police helicopter having to land on the university grounds as students reported shots near the classrooms.
