Lebanon and Egypt Discuss Arms Control Plan and Israeli Escalation in Southern Lebanon

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met in Beirut on Wednesday to discuss a government plan for arms control and ongoing Israeli attacks in the country’s south, according to Anadolu. After the talks, Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s interest in Lebanon’s security. The Lebanese presidency statement emphasized the need for cooperation between Egypt and Lebanon and supported President Aoun’s initiative to expand army control in southern Lebanon. Egypt backs Lebanon’s decision to centralize all weapons, including Hezbollah’s, under government control. The Lebanese government approved a plan to implement this by the end of 2025, aiming to enhance security and seek diplomatic solutions over military actions.
