Revolutionary Method for Restoring Vision Discovered

Scientists have reported the restoration of vision in patients with dry age-related macular degeneration for the first time, offering hope for combating blindness in the elderly. In the early clinical phase of the study, published in Cell Stem Cell (CSC), the transplantation of stem cells under the retina not only proved to be safe but also improved vision in all participants. The research involved six individuals aged 71 to 86 with severe disease. Researchers injected a small dose of just 50,000 stem cells into the most affected eye of each patient, capable of transforming into retinal pigment epithelium cells that die during macular degeneration.
