Trump Says Ground Offensives in Venezuela Will Begin ‘Soon’

President Trump stated on Thursday (27) that ground offensives against drug trafficking in Venezuela are set to begin ‘very soon’. During a conference with military personnel, Trump said that drug trafficking by sea is diminishing. Now, he stated that the US will also prevent the transport of narcotics by land, which he considers ‘easier’. The president did not provide further details on how the ground operations will be carried out or when they will take place. The statement escalates the recent verbal tension between the two countries, as Trump previously mentioned dealing with Venezuela ‘the tough way’, if necessary. Onboard Air Force One, Trump was asked why he would consider talking to Nicolás Maduro, despite labeling him as the head of a terrorist organization. ‘If we can save lives, if we can solve things the easy way, that would be good. And if we have to do it the tough way, that’s fine too’, he answered.
