Federal Police conducts operation to investigate bomb threat on plane

The Federal Police (PF) launched Operation Flight Plan on Saturday (29) to deepen investigations into a bomb threat found on a plane on August 7 of this year. The flight, operated by Azul Airlines, departed from São Luís (MA) with 170 passengers and was heading to Campinas (SP), but had to make an emergency landing at Brasília International Airport (DF) after a handwritten note—a sort of letter—was found in the aircraft’s restroom. The note stated that there were explosives in the cargo hold of the plane. According to the PF, a search and seizure warrant was executed at an address linked to the main suspect in Santa Catarina in Saturday’s operation. The threat prompted a mobilization of security forces, passenger evacuation, and a thorough inspection of the aircraft, potentially constituting the crimes of threat and attempted attack against aviation security. The Federal Police stated that no explosives were found on the plane, and investigations continue confidentially to clarify all the circumstances of the incident and any potential connections to similar behaviors recorded at other airports in the country.
