India has been re-elected to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Council with the highest vote in its category at the elections in London for the 2025-26 biennium. This reaffirms India’s position as one of the key players in the international maritime sector. Alongside countries like Australia, Brazil, and Canada, India is part of Category B, representing states with a significant interest in international seaborne trade. The newly elected Council is set to convene for its 136th session on December 4, where the Chair and Vice-Chair for the next biennium will be chosen. The Indian High Commission in London announced India’s re-election to the Council with pride, securing 154 votes in Category B.
