Islamabad, Nov 30 (PTI) Pakistan and Egypt have agreed to enhance their economic, commercial, cultural, and defence ties after years of a stagnant relationship. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty visited Islamabad for two days and met with Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar. Discussions covered various issues such as conflicts in Gaza and Sudan, the Iranian nuclear program dispute, and ways to increase economic cooperation. Minister Dar highlighted the need to revitalize the Pakistan-Egypt Joint Ministerial Commission, which had not convened since 2010, and promote bilateral political consultations. He announced plans for political consultations in the first quarter of 2026. The two countries aim to expand trade ties, with Pakistan sharing a list of 250 business houses with Egypt to expedite visas for the business community. Plans include increasing the initial list of 250 to 500 businesses after three months and establishing a Pakistan-Egypt Business Council to promote commercial partnership. Additionally, a Pakistan-Egyptian Business Forum will be created, co-chaired by the foreign ministers and set to convene in Cairo in the second quarter of 2026. Both nations agreed to pursue structured cooperation and explore new partnership opportunities to strengthen their ties. Minister Dar praised Egypt’s humanitarian support, mediation, and diplomatic efforts in promoting ceasefire and protecting Palestinian rights. Egypt announced an increase in scholarships for Pakistani students at Al Azhar University and expressed readiness to deepen bilateral cooperation, striving to elevate the relationship to a strategic level. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Pakistan was underlined, emphasizing the potential for both countries’ collaboration. Egypt stands in solidarity with Pakistan in combating terrorism and violent extremism, offering support and sharing experiences to address these challenges. The country also expressed appreciation for the cordial relations with Pakistan and willingness to reinvigorate institutional mechanisms for dialogue and cooperation. The discussions between Pakistan and Egypt signify a significant step towards reinforcing their economic and defence partnerships, underscoring a mutual commitment to strategic collaboration and mutual beneficial cooperation.
