Devastating Flooding in Indonesia, Thailand, and Sri Lanka Claims Over 1,000 Lives

Indonesia, Thailand, and Sri Lanka are currently reeling from catastrophic flooding that has claimed hundreds of lives in each country, devastating communities. The President of Indonesia has urged increased action to combat climate change following the series of extreme weather events that have led to the death of over 1,000 individuals. The island of Sumatra in Indonesia alone has witnessed nearly 600 fatalities due to flash flooding and landslides brought about by monsoonal rain and Cyclone Senyar. With hundreds still missing, Indonesia’s National Disaster Agency reported a death toll of 593 on Monday night.
