Italian authorities to deport Egyptian imam for comments made at pro-Palestine rally

An Egyptian imam is facing deportation from Italy for comments he made at a pro-Palestine rally in Turin on 9 October. Mohammed Shahin, who previously served as an imam at Turin’s San Salvario mosque, is at risk of being sent back to Egypt, where he fears imprisonment, torture, and possibly death. The 46-year-old, residing in Italy for 21 years, was taken into custody by counter-terrorism police on 24 November after his residence permit was revoked. Shahin is currently detained at a repatriation center in Caltanissetta, Sicily, awaiting a decision on his asylum claim.
