IML reveals cause of death of young man attacked by lioness at zoo; see

The IML (Medical Legal Institute) of João Pessoa (PB) disclosed on Monday afternoon (1) the cause of death of Gerson de Melo Machado, 19, after being attacked by a lioness at the Arruda Almeida Zoobotanical Park last weekend. According to the institute, death occurred due to hemorrhagic shock after the perforation of cervical vessels — including arteries and veins in the neck region — likely caused by the animal’s bite. The body will also undergo a complementary toxicological test, and an ‘technical identification’ examination will be performed. It will only be available to family members after the completion of legal procedures.
